Meaning? Meaning to my life? I've never understood why some people (including ardent atheists like Jean-Paul Sartre!) believe life utterly needs some "meaning", "sense" and/or "purpose". I don't think my life has any of these. *And I don't understand why this should disturb me in the least.* I just don't get it. I know what I want to do with my life, if that's what you mean.
It seems like a very lonely and scary world (and pointless) without an ultimate provider of justice.
John Tyrrell has adequately answered this. Still, to some extent you are right. But, hey. I think it's obvious that I'm not going to believe "that I'm not alone" just because I don't want "to be alone"! I want to believe what is true, and as long as I can't find out what is true, I can't believe anything. To me it's really that simple.
As for "pointless", see above.
Perhaps you think a religion is necessary for giving one, as Americans like to call it, a "moral compass"? I'll write more on this later; so far, please rest assured that I have such a thing, and that it's IMHO pretty sensitive.
