Deciding not to choose

My local First Assembly of God has the pictured notice on their church sign this month. Finally a message I can wholeheartedly agree with.

I assume they are talking about agnosticism; but perhaps that is only because of my own preconceptions. I suspect the message they are trying to communicate is that the inability to decide leads a person to a decision by default. But my agnosticism is a clear decision, and in my experience, most of the agnostic visitors to this site have also made a clear decision for agnosticism; a decision not to choose between belief in a god or no-god.

Over ten years ago, when I wrote the introduction page to The Church section, I wrote:

What this site seeks to illustrate is that agnosticism in itself is a legitimate end position in religious belief.

That is where I still stand. And it is a decisive choice, and not a default position from not being able to make up my mind.

I decided not to choose. For me, it remains the right decision. As it probably is for most of the regular visitors to this site.
