Belief Left Behind

The following is from the Left Behind movie website.  The movie is being released today.

In the blink of an eye, the biblical Rapture strikes the world. Millions of people disappear without a trace. All that remains are their clothes and belongings, and in an instant, terror and chaos spread around the world. The vanishings cause unmanned vehicles to crash and burn. Planes fall from the sky. Emergency forces everywhere are devastated. Gridlock, riots and looting overrun the cities. There is no one to help or provide answers. In a moment, the entire planet is plunged into darkness.

Willie Robertson, a "star" of the silly "reality" show, Duck Dynasty, is one of the producers of this movie. He has recommended that Christians going to see this piece of schlock should take their non-believing friends and families to see the film. Apparently he thinks this will bring about instant conversions to his ignorant bigoted brand of Christian fundamentalism.

So what are those non-believers going to see? It's up there in the movie description. A planet plunged into darkness. People being killed by falling planes, or killed dying accidents caused by cars without drivers, or killed in riots. All caused by a murderous deity. The whole Rapture concept is little more than a wet dream for fundamentalists secure in their unfounded beliefs and who take pleasure in gloating over the misfortune of others who don't share their ignorance.

And Robertson thinks we will want to believe in this abomination! That we'll want to accept his evil god.

No thank you. I'm better off without such a belief in my life. And I can only hope that at least some of the Christians who see the film will see just how cruel this concept of their god is, and decide they too are better off without believing in him. And that's the best possible outcome - that this movie will cause faith in this non-biblical Christian belief in a Rapture to be left behind.

Have your say...
