Kathy Griffin's Emmy Acceptance Speech

I invariably get irritated when in an acceptance speech for an award or in a post-game interview, the winner gives thanks to Jesus. It is not the expression of faith that bothers me as much as the suggestion that Jesus was not on the side of the losers; essentially if Jesus was responsible for the win, he was also responsible for making the others lose.

It was refreshing to read about Kathy Griffin's acceptance speech at the Creative Arts Emmys last Saturday (8 September 2007) in which she said...

...a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus." She went on to hold up her Emmy, said "Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now!"

Understandably this will offend some people, and it is expected her remarks will be censored when clips of the earlier award show are aired during the live Emmy presentation. But at least Jesus does not have to take the blame for those who lost out to Ms. Griffin.
